Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

>> Friday, December 24, 2010

Holiday wishes to everyone!

The ballots have been mailed out for voting on the 2012 National Judge. Once you've made your choice the ballot needs to be mailed back to Donna Roadhouse, the new CSSA Secretary, by January 31st, 2011. All regular and life memberships of CSSA are eligible to vote (associate, junior and foreign members cannot vote). Note that the joint regular memberships only have one vote.

Safe journeys for anyone travelling.

Thanks for the support of the Southern Ontario section regional specialties and grooming seminar! Here's to a great 2011.

Call for Logo for 2012 National

>> Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I would like to ask once again for all the talented sheltie folks to please help us out.

We are still looking for a few more suggestions for our 2012 National logo/slogan. The logo and slogan should include something to attract sheltie folks to Southern Ontario for the National to be held in Ancaster, Ontario (near Hamilton)

If you have any ideas you would like to submit, could you please do so by November 26th. Email them directly to me with as much detail as possible. Drawn out would be great.

I have several submissions already, but wanted to make sure that everyone who wished to submit an idea could do so.

Looking forwarding to seeing all the creative ideas.
Thanks in advance.

A Successful Grooming Seminar

>> Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Hi All

I just wanted to send a little report about our CSSA Ontario South, Grooming Seminar that was held on Sat. Nov. 13th, at Campaign Dog Academy.

Rachel Pratt instructed a very eager group of Sheltie owners. Rachel shared her many grooming tips and techniques that she has mastered over the years. Those in attendance enjoyed a wonderful day of education, camaraderie, and good old sheltie talk.

I would like to thank Rachel for sharing her knowledge with us, and for taking the time to answer any and all questions.

Also, thank you to Deb Desjardine for allowing us to use her wonderful facility.

And a huge thank you to Cathie Kraemer, my right hand woman, for all her help with the organizing of the seminar and for putting on such a wonderful lunch.

Last but not least, thank you to all who attended. I’m sure everyone went away having learned something new.

The seminar was a huge success and we raised over $600.00 toward the 2012 National fund.

A great time was had by all.

National meeting - November 7, 2010

>> Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Good Morning All
Could we have asked for a better Thanksgiving weekend!!!! I hope that you are all enjoying family, friends and lots of turkey.

We have yet to get CKC approval, however I do wish to proceed. Our last meeting was very productive and many areas were addressed and several members have stepped up to head committees. We still have several important committees that need to have committee heads.

I have already received a couple of judges nominations sheets, as well as a couple of very intriguing ideas for logos and slogans. Keep them coming.

I would like to hold our next meeting on Sunday, Nov. 7th at 1 pm ( I don’t think we have any conformation shows close). Cathie Kraemer has kindly offered to host the meeting. Yes, I know it will be a bit of a drive for many, but we have to try to accommodate everyone. I am trying to move the meetings around so that it is not always the same people doing the big road trips, and to encourage more members to attend.

By this meeting we will have all the judges nomination sheets and will know the top 3 choices for judges. Also, I am hoping that we will have our approval from CKC.

I appreciate the turn out so far for our meetings and the enthusiasm is wonderful, let’s keep it up so that we can host the most memorable National to date.

The address for Cathie is 216 Trillium Dr. Port Elgin (Saugeen Shores for some GPS), phone number 519-389-3825 email katylou@bmts.com

I would appreciate if you could let me know if you will be attending the meeting.
Thanks and hope to see you all at the meeting.

2012 National Slogan and Logo

>> Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Hi All
Just wanted to give everyone a little update on our 2012 National meeting held Sept 26th. The turnout was great and several items were discussed and put into play. Several members present agreed to head some of the committees for the 2012 National.

As of yet we do not have CKC approval, but I hope we will get it in the very near future. We are just starting to get things organized. Hosting the 2012 CSSA National will be a monumental task. However, after Sunday's meeting and seeing the enthusiasm of those present, I’m sure Ontario South can pull this off with flying colours.
Even though we are still waiting for CKC approval, we are moving ahead with the assumption that this is just a formality.

I would like everyone to start thinking of a slogan and logo for the National. The slogan for the 98 National held in Toronto was “Yours to Discover”. We need something descriptive and eye catching, that is not only attractive but memorable as well.

I know we have some very talented members in Ontario South so please put those talents to work and send me your suggestions. I would like to have all ideas to me by Nov. 1st, as I am hoping to have another meeting in November. At that time I hope that we will have many slogan and logo ideas to chose from.

Thank you to all who attended on Sunday, your support and willingness to step up and volunteer your time is greatly appreciated.

Sept. 26th meeting - update

>> Wednesday, September 15, 2010

As you know we have a 2012 National meeting planned for September 26th. However, I have just been reminded that this is also the Burlington show weekend.

In order to accommodate both the show and the meeting, I was wondering if someone from the Hamilton area would consider hosting the meeting?

If we have the meeting start at 2pm that would give those attending the show plenty of time to show and then come to the meeting as Shelties are on before noon and Group judging is at 12:10.

If you would consider hosting the meeting, please email me ASAP.

Thanks in advance

National meeting scheduled for Sept. 26, 2010

>> Tuesday, August 31, 2010

We now have the CSSA approval for our CSSA National to be held May 10 to 12, 2012 followed by our Regional Specialty on May 13th at the Ancaster Fairgrounds.

Now we just need to get approval from the CKC. I am going to proceed with the premise that we will get our CKC approval.

With that being said, we will be holding a national meeting on Sunday, September 26th. Location yet to be announced.

I am hoping that many of you will attend this meeting, as hosting a national is a monumental undertaking and cannot be pulled off by just a few members. We are hoping to put into place some of the committees that will need to start organizing immediately several items for the national.

So, please come out and join us. I will post the location as soon as I can.

CSSA Regional Specialty Thank you!

Thank you to everyone for their support of our Regional Specialty held on Sunday, August 1st in very hot, sunny weather.

We may not have had an overwhelming entry but the quality of dogs and bitches presented to our Sweepstakes judge, Terry Pavey and our Specialty judge, Tom Coen was impressive.

My thanks to everyone who donated monies for our trophy fund. To Maureen McCaveney for the judges' gifts of vases painted with two of their own kennel's favourite shelties - you are a very talented artist.

Thanks to June Davis and Lindsay Evans for helping to sell raffle tickets for the Ex-pen, crate and director's chair. And MJN Show Services for your usual fine job of keeping our club organized and for providing the beautiful ribbons.

Candid shots from the specialty can be found on Evelyn Susin's website, thanks Evelyn!

I'm just about finished typing the catalogue results and will post them shortly. My congratulations to all the winners!

Again my thanks - you made my job as Show Chair easier!

Meeting date re: hosting 2012 National - Sunday, June 27th

Hi Everyone
I’m sitting at home today waiting for puppies to arrive. So I thought it was time to set a date for the CSSA meeting in regards to holding the 2012 National.

I thought it best to not have a meeting at a show, as we will require a fair amount of time to discuss what we need to before deciding for sure if Ontario South wishes to host the next National.

Jo Ann Pavey has kindly offered her house for our meeting. Thank you Jo Ann. The date for the meeting will be on Sunday, June 27th at 1pm at Jo Ann’s.

The address is 18128 Regional Rd 50, Palgrave, Ontario (just south of Hwy. 9)

If you need directions, please email me and I will send them to you. I know this is a show weekend, but this time of year....what weekend isn’t.

Priority one is to find a suitable location for the National, so please if you have any ideas for a venue, that we can afford alone or a show that we could be in conjunction with, could you please research that venue and bring all the info to the meeting. Keep in mind that the venue will need to be close to a major airport and hotels.

A great deal is riding on the meeting, so I hope to see many of you there.

If you are planning to attend, please could you let me know.

Heads up for meeting re: 2012 National

>> Saturday, May 15, 2010

Will let you know the meeting date in a future post.

Hi All
I have had some very positive feedback regarding Ontario South hosting the 2012 National.
With that being said, I think that we need to organize a meeting. Would all of you that suggested sites, please get some info (size, cost, area hotels, restaurants, etc) for the sites you have mentioned. That way we have something to start with at the meeting. I will let you know when and where as soon as I can.

2012 National

>> Sunday, May 9, 2010

Hi Everyone
I’m just nicely back from the National in Saskatoon, and finally getting caught up on emails and such.

As you may or may not know, as of this time no CSSA region has stepped up to host the CSSA National 2012.

What I would like to know from you.....the CSSA members of Ontario South.....is this something that you would like to host?

Saskatoon held the National in conjunction with an All Breed show, so as to keep down expenses. I think this was a resounding success for Saskatoon.

The hurdle we would need to overcome here in Ontario South, is the appropriate location. At this time we are required to include conformation and obedience, other performance events can be added at our discretion, and it is to be held indoors.

So please keep in mind that hosting a National is a huge undertaking, requiring many volunteers, and a major commitment financially. This is not something that can be done by a few people. Ontario South hosted the National in 1998, and it was a great success and a major source of pride for those of us that helped to put it on.

Please I am looking for feedback from you all. If I get enough positive responses, I will organize a meeting to discuss hosting the 2012 National.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
